You can start the application process with a call to the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 1-800-772-1213 to schedule a telephone interview or a face to face interview at your local Social Security office.

If you asked for a telephone interview, a representative from the local office will call you at the scheduled time to take your claim information. Plan on spending a least a half hour with the representative.

If you asked for a personal office visit, the representative will be expecting you and will take you promptly if you arrive on time. Don’t be late to this appointment! If your are late, you will probably have to wait for an available representative.
